When People Begin To Expect You To Pour
by Tonya Dixson on Sep 07, 2026
There is a beautiful thing that happens when consistency creates expectation.
People begin to look for you.
They notice when the word is missing.
They expect the encouragement.
They wait for the thought.
But here is the part we have to remember:
Being expected is not the same as being obligated.
There is a difference between being faithful to an assignment and feeling pressured to meet everybody’s expectation.
We should absolutely be consistent.
We should honor what God has given us to do.
We should show up when He says show up.
But we should never become so committed to being available to people that we stop checking whether we are still being led by God.
Even Jesus withdrew.
Even Jesus rested.
Even Jesus did not answer every demand the moment it was made.
So yes—be dependable.
But stay led.
Let consistency create trust, not bondage.
Because the goal is not to become everyone’s endless source.
The goal is to remain connected to The Source.
Provoking Thought:
When people begin to expect you to pour, make sure you are still taking time to be filled.
