Genesis 28:16 (KJV)
“Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.”
Have you ever reached the end of a day and wondered where it went?
You got up. Took care of what needed your attention. Answered calls. Handled responsibilities. Maybe you even managed to sit down for a few minutes before something else needed doing.
Nothing particularly exciting happened. Nothing you would think to write about.
Just another day.
But I wonder how many times we’ve called a day ordinary simply because we didn’t recognize God’s presence in it.
Jacob was in an unexpected place, sleeping with a stone beneath his head. It certainly didn’t look like a place where he would encounter God.
Yet when he awakened, he said, “Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.”
God had been there before Jacob recognized Him.
That thought stays with me.
We can become so accustomed to looking for God in the extraordinary that we overlook His presence in the everyday.
The conversation that brought encouragement. The strength to handle something difficult. The quiet moment that settled your spirit. The responsibility you managed when you weren’t sure you had anything left to give.
We may not have recognized Him in those moments. But that doesn’t mean He was absent.
And perhaps that’s something worth considering as we begin another week.
Not every encounter with God comes with a dramatic announcement. Sometimes we recognize His presence only after we’ve walked through the moment.
So before you dismiss yesterday as uneventful, or tomorrow as just another day filled with responsibilities, remember Jacob’s words.
“Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.”
Maybe the question isn’t whether God will show up in our ordinary lives.
Maybe it’s whether we’re learning to recognize the One who has been there all along.
Let’s Pray
Father, thank You for being present even when we fail to recognize You. Open our eyes to Your goodness in the ordinary moments of our lives. Help us not to overlook the quiet ways You strengthen, guide, and sustain us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Smiling Atcha
